The Zenith Capital Holding Group of Bejing and CanadaTown, the China Canada Emerging Technologies Park have partnered in the establishment of a CNY10 Billion (approx $2 Billion CDN) investment fund.

CNY 8 Billion of the capital will advance collaboration between China and Canada in the commercialization of innovative technologies at the China Canada Emerging Technologies Park in Langfang, Hebei province. The Emerging Technology Fund will invest the remaining 20% of its capital in Canada by developing technology park businesses in the Vancouver and Waterloo regions. The fund will include a CNY500 million (approx. C$100 million) venture capital fund earmarked to support commercialization projects and start up companies, from which CNY100 Million (approx. C$20 million) will be allocated for the University of Waterloo’s commercialization office.

The signing ceremony that established the fund took place on September 1st at the Canada China Business Council AGM held in Shanghai in the presence of the Hon. Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s Minister of International Trade. Minister Freeland welcomed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the conclusion of the signing event.
